A week at the house
The usual pattern of the week, from the quiet Monday supper to the fullest night on Saturday. The house is closed on Sunday.
Choosing the right evening

The house opens from Monday to Saturday, and each evening has its own character. The table below sets out the usual pattern. It is reviewed from time to time, and the dealer on duty can always confirm what is planned for the coming days.
Monday and Wednesday are the quieter evenings and are well suited to first-time visitors. Wednesday in particular is arranged for beginners, with a dealer at each table to explain the games from the beginning. Thursday is given to roulette, and Friday to the poker tournament.
Saturday is the fullest evening, with all seven tables open and the dining room usually at capacity. Guests who intend to come on a Saturday are advised to reserve a table in advance. Sunday is a day of rest for the house.
The pace of an evening is much the same whichever night is chosen. Dinner is served from half past five until eight, the tables open for play as soon as the first guests arrive, and the house closes at half past eleven. Guests may therefore dine early and play late, or arrive after a meal elsewhere and go straight to the tables.
Those who wish to see the dealers at their most patient are advised to come on Wednesday or Thursday, when each game is explained from the beginning and the pace is deliberate. Those who prefer a livelier room should choose Friday or Saturday, when the long room is full and the final table of the tournament draws a crowd.
The program changes little from season to season, though occasional exceptions occur around public holidays and local events in town. A private evening, for example, may take the casino room on a night that is otherwise open to the public. Such changes are posted at the door and confirmed whenever a guest telephones.
No dates appear on this page because the pattern does not depend on them. The program follows the days of the week, and the house follows the program.
“Wednesday is the evening for beginners. I sat at the blackjack table for an hour with a very patient dealer, and I left knowing more than I had expected to learn.”

Questions about the week
Does the program change during the year?
Only in small ways. In the cooler months the Friday tournament begins a little earlier, and the kitchen occasionally adds a seasonal special. The pattern of the week remains the same, and any change is explained when you telephone.
Is the house open on public holidays?
Usually, with the exception of Christmas Day and Good Friday. Hours may vary on long weekends, so we recommend that guests telephone ahead to confirm the arrangement for the evening in question.
Can the casino room be reserved for a private evening?
Yes, on certain nights, and by arrangement. Details are on the corporate nights page. A private evening takes the whole room, so it is arranged well in advance and confirmed in writing.
